Your needs, our technology ...
Taraflex® by Gerflor has been providing the protection our young athletes need while still giving world record breaking Olympians the performance they want, and doing that consistently for almost 60 years. However, we do not only provide outstanding shock absorption for protection, nor do we just design our floors for the perfect ball bounce. Protection and performance do not stop there with Taraflex® ...
Biomechanics
We adapt our flooring to the needs of the human being and not the other way around. Several decades of close collaboration with some of the most prestigious biomechanics laboratories in the world have helped us develop sports flooring adapted to the very different body structures and needs of children, teenagers, adults, and athletes.
Protection
Comfort/Cushioning
This is the ability of the flooring surface to deform around the point of impact, creating a mattress cushioning effect. The greater the comfort level, the less it hurts when you fall or dive.
Vibrations/Area Deflection
Area deflection is the area of the deformation around the point of impact. The greater the area deflection, the greater the risk of vibrations and of developing shin splints and stress fractures.
Shock Absorption
This is the ability of the floor to absorb the energy of the impact. As a result, the force of impact returned to the athlete playing on Taraflex® is dramatically less than when playing on a hard surface, such as concrete.
Sliding Coefficient/Slipperiness
Studies show that up to 12% of all basketball injuries are sustained during pivoting movements. The sliding coefficient of your sports floor is an indicator of whether your floor is too tacky (which reduces the ease of pivoting) or is too slippery (which increases the risk of slipping or falling). A sports floor needs to have sufficient traction to ensure grip while still having consistent and regular slide in all directions to ensure unrestricted ease of movement and pivoting.
Performance
Consistent Ball Bounce
Ball bounce testing is a measurement of the height a basketball rebounds when dropped from 6'6" onto a sports floor. This is expressed in percentage form and represents the difference in a rebound height when compared to that of a basketball on a concrete slab. This is important for the performance of the floor but does not in any way measure consistency of ball bounce.
Energy Restitution
This is the ability of the floor to return the energy to the player, thus increasing performance. Two extremes, both with excellent shock absorption, are a trampoline and soft sand. The former has significant energy return, while the latter returns little energy.
High durability
Unrivaled and Market Leader in Durability
Taraflex® Sports Flooring leads the way with its 15-year warranty. A warranty not only gives you peace of mind about your choice, but also is an indicator of longevity you can expect from the floor.
Economical maintenance
Simplified and Reduced Cost of Maintenance
With certain types of floors your annual maintenance costs can be equivalent of the initial purchase price! You want your floor to always look great. After all, a great looking floor is a reflection of the prestige of your establishment.
